Geo has set a record, becoming the first telecom company in India to add 400 million subscribers
Monthly subscribers of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Report As of June 2020, the total number of telecom subscribers in India was 116 crore, which increased to 111.4 crore by July 2020. It shows a growth rate of 0.30 percent per month.
According to the report, Reliance Jio Wireless is topping the market share of wireless subscribers with a total of 40,08,03,819 subscribers.
As of July 31, 2020, wireless subscribers to private access service providers such as Geo, Airtel and Vier had 89.33 per cent market share, while BSNL and MTNL’s two PSU access service providers had only 10.67 per cent market share. Kolkata Telecom Circle has registered 2.03 per cent growth in wireless subscriber base till July.
The report states that in July 2020, more than 5 lakh applications were received for Mobile Number Portability (MNP).
The TRAI report also found that the number of broadband subscribers increased from 709.8 million in June to 70.5 million in June. The top five service providers (Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea, BSNL, and Atria Convergence) gained 98.91 per cent of the total broadband subscribers at the end of July.
