Video calls are available on WhatsApp since 2001. However, only 2 people can take part in it. Now users can enjoy video calling on WhatsApp, iOS and Android apps. The company said a maximum of four people could take part in the WhatsApp group calling. WhatsApp claims The new feature will work well on weak networks as well. Like all chats in this messaging app, group calling will be completely encrypted.
For group calls you first need to start a video or voice call on WhatsApp. After that, you will see a button at the top left. From here, more users can be added to the call. As soon as you connect with someone on the call, you’ll see the ad person option in the top right. After that, if a third user accepts your call, both names will appear with a comma. You will be able to add up to four people during a group video or voice call. Note that to use this feature you need to download the latest version of WhatsApp from Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
In comparison, 50 people can take part in a group video call on Facebook Messenger and Skype has a limit of 25. On the other hand, 16 users on Snapchat and 32 on Apple’s FaceTime can be part of a group call.
